Zenith

The moon was high in a cloudless sky that night
We stopped to gaze in wonder and awe
The country road was deserted, no sign of life
But the far distant bark of a farmyard dog
The stillness seeped into my heart, and I knew
That I'd never loved you more than I did at that moment
I opened my arms to you and you flowed against me
Letting me hold you close, loving me back as best you could
Though we both knew that it would never be
What I wanted and what you wanted too different
Now, all these years later, along the divergent paths of our lives
I still recall the moon, the dark, the silence, the love....and you

  1. I was thinking about you and it occurred to me that there is a favourite book of mine which would give you such joy and such sweet sorrow.

So I googled the author and title. Guess what? To my horror it's now almost a rare antiquity and seems to command a ridiculous price.

Still, for what it's worth, the book is by Angus Stewart and is called 'Sandel'. Do you know it?

If you ever get the chance - just settle into this world of an Oxford college, an undergraduate and the head chorister of the choir school.

It's a beautifully crafted exploration of a kind of loving.

  2. Hello Micky
I've heard of the book, and made the same enquiries as you, with the same result - I haven't seen it on offer for less than about £90! I would like to read it sometime, though, but I doubt it would be the sort of thing I could find in my local library.
I suppose the nearest equivalent I have read, and a book I'm very fond of, is Loving Sander by Joseph Geraci, another story of a beautiful, loving relationship that just happens to be between a man and a boy. It's still love, whatever the haters might say.
